Hunting in Montana

Welcome to Montana, the perfect destination for hunters looking for a challenging and rewarding experience in the great outdoors.

Is Montana a good state for hunting?

Montana is home to many big game species, including elk, deer, antelope, bighorn sheep, black bears, mule deer, and upland bird game.

Montana's public land hunting opportunities are some of the best in the country, covering millions of acres across the state. Public lands offer a chance to hunt in some of the most beautiful and pristine environments in the world, with access to a wide variety of game species.

For those who are new to hunting or want a more structured experience, guided hunts are available in Montana. Guided hunts provide hunters with access to prime hunting locations, experienced guides, and the necessary equipment. They offer a great opportunity to learn about the local wildlife and hunting traditions.

What Do I Need to Hunt in Montana?

Before enjoying your hunt in Montana, you’ll need to make sure you have completed everything required. You’ll need to complete your Hunter or Bowhunter education before purchasing or applying for your Montana hunting license if you were born after 1/1/1985.

After completing your Hunter education, you will need a Conservation License, a Base Hunting License Fee ($10 for residents / $15 for non-residents), and a Carcass Tag and/or License for the species you want to hunt.

If you prefer Bowhunting, you’ll need a Bow and Arrow license ($10 for residents and non-residents) plus the proper hunting licenses.
